You don't need a $2,000 setup. You need a tent, a light, a fan, soil, and the right strain.
The minimum kit, honestly: 1. A 2×2 or 2×4 grow tent. ~$100. 2. A 150-250W LED quantum board. ~$150-250. 3. One 6-inch inline fan with a carbon filter. ~$80. 4. A bag of pre-amended living soil. ~$30. 5. A 5-gallon fabric pot. ~$5. 6. A pH meter (cheap is fine). ~$15. 7. A digital thermometer/hygrometer. ~$10.
That's it. Total: ~$400. You will spend more later if you fall in love with this — everyone does. But this gets you to harvest.
The one decision that matters most: pick the right strain.
For your first grow, pick something forgiving. From our catalog: Northern Lights, White Widow, AK-47, Blue Dream, or any auto-flower. Skip anything tagged "Advanced" or "Phenotype-sensitive." There will be time for those later.
Things nobody tells you: - The smell is real. By week 4 of flower, your closet smells like a small skunk lives in it. The carbon filter is not optional. - Watering is the #1 killer of first grows. Pick up the pot. If it's heavy, don't water. If it's light, water until 20% runs off the bottom. That's the whole technique. - pH is the second killer. Tap water in most cities is fine if you adjust to 6.0-6.5 for soil. A $15 pH pen pays for itself the first time you avoid a deficiency. - You will think your plant is dying at least four times. It probably isn't. Take a photo, post it to /community, and ask. Real growers will help.
You'll make every mistake on this grow. That's the point. Your second grow will be 3x better. Your third will start to look like the photos you've been saving on Instagram. By your fifth, you'll be the one answering questions in the community.
Welcome.
